January 7 – March 25, 2025
7:00-9:00 PM / ZOOM ONLY
Last summer, we did a study on six of the 12 Minor Prophets. The study was titled Minor Prophets 2. In this Minor Prophets 1 study we will study the lives and insight of the remaining 6. Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah and Micah. Each of the twelve have distinctive messages on the future history of Israel and the kingdom of God. These writings will secure our confidence in the sovereignty of God and the hope we have for the future.
Hosea: This book is about God’s love for Israel told through the experience of Hosea’s marriage to an unfaithful prostitute. Hosea’s love for Gomer, even after she has been unfaithful, represents God’s unwavering love for Israel.
Joel: A prophecy about a coming day of judgment and restoration. Joel warns about God’s discipline and restoration. It concludes with a wonderful promise of he Holy Spirit.
Amos: A prophecy of judgment against the nations of Israel and Judah, as well as against the surrounding nations. Like Joel, Amos warns of punishment punished for their sins. But also that God will one day restore His people to Himself.
Obadiah: A prophecy of judgment against the nation of Edom.for rejoicingd in the destruction of Jerusalem. Obadiah warns Edom it faces certain judgment.
Jonah: The story of Jonah, who waffles on a direct comand from God. Circumstances get his attention and Jonah completes the task, but with a touch of self-centeredness.
Micah: A prophecy of judgment against the nations of Israel and Judah, as well as against the surrounding nations. The book ends with a vision of the coming of the Messiah. Very much like we saw in Malachi.
